They say that life's a gift God gives each day
and no one's guaranteed tomorrow's dawn
but as I rise from sleep, I can but pray
that gift includes the strength to carry on
I know I shouldn't sit here and complain
when others' lot in life is so much worse
and some won't ever see the sun again
so who am I to grumble, gripe, and curse
but sometimes my whole world is pain and strife
I must fight on, though I can barely move
I'm really not ungrateful for this life
but all I've got is hope things may improve
and this is why I hope you understand
how much it means to me to hold your hand
