MY OTHER EYES

When I open my other eyes
I see dust and bones and ashes
on the desolate beach
of a dead, motionless lake,
and a silent light in the sky,
swirling,
pink, blue, black, green,
twisting, swirling, pulsing
above me.
I cower
under the black sky.
There's no wind.
Only silence;
my screams never echo.

I stare,
lonely, anxious, afraid,
upon the untouchable life,
biting my nails to the quick,
hugging my knees,
and hoping that sun never sets,
leaving me in cold, frozen
black darkness.
I throw
handfuls of tears
up at the light.
They always fall short.
Now there's a dead, black lake.
I've been here forever.
