Our soulmate was assigned before our birth
And taunts our starving hearts with distant light
Their absence robs our fate of its full worth
And drives a search for love beyond our sight
We try their costume onto many hearts
We hope that this one just might fit, perhaps
But self-deception fails, the lie departs
Delusion falls away, and dreams collapse
If only we could hold that Destined Soul
With faith alone, without needing the form
To wrap our arms around and make us whole
But we are flesh. Our dreams don't keep us warm
If we were just a bit more resolute
We'd not be doomed to hold a substitute
The complete poetic works of Kevin Ranville. The theme is lights in the dark. Interpret it how you will. Like me, this collection is a work in progress. All poems are copyrighted to Kevin Ranville. Please state as much if you pass the work along to a friend. Thanks.
