SONNET C - ECLIPSE

When through the park we strolled one lovely eve
we stopped to kiss beneath a lamppost's light
I felt such things that I could not believe
and glowed for the remainder of the night
One hundred angels carried me aloft
or so it seemed at your lips' tender touch
I'd never felt a kiss so sweet and soft
Nor felt a joy within I loved so much
But then you pulled away and just strolled on
while smiles danced upon those same sweet lips
that new love beat the million stars that shone
There's never been a lovelier eclipse
Life's hard for vast percentages of time
But now and then, the night's downright sublime
