SONNET XCIX - BACK TO LIFE

Sweet Spring brings more than just a sunny sky
The warmth of hope is finally restored
My strength was just about to say goodbye
But patience earned an overdue reward
The brutal cold held sway for way too long
We're finally free from Winter's endless night
The world joins in a better, brighter song
A newborn Spring is here to set things right
And now death's rule will finally fade away
That old usurping king withdraws his knife
That tyrant's reign was never here to stay
And now the world is coming back to life
   At last I see a tiny shoot of green
   And it's the greatest thing I've ever seen
