SONNET LII - FRIENDS

They say a friend in need’s a friend indeed
And they will tend with speed your every care
But can you tell a flower from a weed?
When you have much, your friends are everywhere
Then with hungry times around the bend
Just like a rat, they’ll flee the sinking boat
You find out who’s your near and dearest friend
When you can barely keep the ship afloat
The true friend loves you even when you’re lost
And stands by you when nothing’s going right
A true friend’s there no matter what the cost
And walks with you back into Fortune’s light
While many friends are fickle, false, and flawed
I’m thankful you’re a friend indeed, like God
