SONNET XXIX - ONE LOST DAY

I rode the Earth around for one more spin
the sun is down and only stars remain
the day is gone and night has settled in
and it's a day I'll never see again
the day went by like every other one
I sat around and squandered all my time
and in the end I got no great things done
these wasted days are such a heinous crime
and there in bed I tally up the cost
I tell myself tomorrow I'll repay
but deep inside I know the chance is lost
I'll never pay my debt to yesterday
each night the sunlight's last remaining rays
remind me that I'm running out of days
